Directions to the String Theory groups in greater Paris:
All groups can be reached by using the RER B fast train, running from Roissy - Charles de Gaulle airport (north) to Saint Remy la Chevreuse (south). People arriving at Orly Airport (south) can take the Orlyval (automatic train) to Antony, and there connect to the RER B. It may be helpful to print out a subway or RER map below, where the relevant stops have been circled (courtesy of RATP )
Most of the common activities take place at Institut Henri Poincaré , 5 rue Pierre et Marie Curie, in the Latin Quarter. IHP is a 5 min walk from the RER stop Luxemburg on the B line, a block away from LPTENS. See the local map . LPTENS is easily reached from IHP by following Rue Pierre et Marie Curie to the west, crossing Rue d'Ulm on to Rue Lhomond, and walking 200 m. Enter the Departement de Physique de l'ENS, LPTENS is on the second floor. LPTHE is on the subway line 7 from La Courneuve to Villejuif/Mairie d'Ivry, and on line 10 from Boulogne to Austerlitz. Get off at "Jussieu" station, enter the campus through the main gate, and walk to tower 13, see the campus map . LPTHE is on the 4th and 5th floor, the secretariat and library are on 4th floor. CPHT is on Ecole Polytechnique campus. Take the RER B train bound to Saint Remy la Chevreuse and get off at Lozere (check on the panel that the train deserves this stop, not all trains do). Cross the railway using the tunnel or bridge, and take the path that rises sharply into the woods. See the local map to reach CPHT. SPhT is on CEA campus at L'orme-des-Merisiers. Take the RER B train bound to Saint Remy la Chevreuse and get off at Le Guichet (check on the panel that the train deserves this stop, not all trains do). Cross under the railway to reach the bus stop beyond the caf? close to the station. Take the ATPR bus line 269.002 "Le Guichet-Saclay" (taxis are also available) and get off at the stop Orme des Merisiers (about 15 min), Enter the gate and walk straight about 600 m, then turn right to reach immediately the car park next to SPhT. NB: CPHT and SPhT can also be reached by bus from Massy. Take the RER B train to Massy-Palaiseau. Cross the railways on the bridge and take the white bus number 92-6 to Ecole Polytechnique for CPHT, or Rond-point de St-Aubin for SPhT. LPT is on Orsay campus. Take the RER B train bound to Saint Remy la Chevreuse and get off at Orsay-Ville. Take the pedestrian passageway under the tracks to the north side and turn left. Keep as much to the left as possible, following more or less the tracks, until finally after about 500 meters the road makes a sharp right and slopes slightly down. In front will be what is obviously part of a linear accelerator. Building 210-213 is at the bottom of the slope on the left. The main entrance is beyond the parking lot. The LPT is on the European first (American second) floor.
IHES is located in Bures sur Yvette. Take the RER B train bound to
Saint Remy la Chevreuse and get off at Bures sur Ivette.
Follow rue Georges Seneuze along the railroad. IHES entrance
is on the roundabout "rond point du 8 mai 1945". Another more
scenic walk: From the RER train station, follow rue du g?n?ral Leclerc
orthogonal to the railroad. Then turn left into route de Chartres.
After a roundabout there is a little door on the right of the road
going to the forest of the IHES. Enter and follow the path.
